Friend…Quote of the Day
I’ve been quoting summer for some time now…well since summer is almost over
….
“Treat your friends as you do your pictures, and place them in their best light.”
~~ Jennie Jerome Churchill
Old Photos….Tip of the Day
We’ve all come across those old family photos of ourselves as babies or even of our parents…WOW the quality is awful compared to photos today. Wish they looked better and less “grainy”….scan your photo and scale it down…if it’s an 8×10 scale it down to a 5×7 and even if it’s a 4×6 size photo bring it down to a 3×5. This trick may not fix all the photo problems but you should see improvement.
That also reminds me ~~ scan those old photos now because as time goes on many of those begin to crack especially the old polaroids. You will be glad you did…there is nothing more disappointing than coming across old photos and the face is almost gone from cracking.

Plastic Embellishments…tip of the day
We all love those plastic embellishments, my personal favorites are the ones by Heidi Grace. She is by far one of my favorite artists. I am happy to say I have even met her and talked to her for over an hour!!! As much as I love her and how lovely her embellishments are, I just cannot always afford $4-$8 per package!!
So let’s save some money!! Get out you QuicKutz, Sizzix, or any other die cutting machine you have….now simply look around you…not just your scrapbooking area but your house. Seems like everything we buy has a clear plastic package (toys, scrapbook embellishments, games, etc)….take that plastic and cut it with your die cutting machine…flowers, animals, shapes, you name it you can make it!!!(My personal favorite is flowers…I do so much with flowers)
You can do so much with these shapes…paint them, stamp them, antique them, put glitter on them, cover part with paper, add brads, eyelets, string them together. Leave them plain and use transparent…The possibilites are endless!
Remember the tip I had about hiding mistakes on photos? Here is another solution for that…hide your smudges, dropped pen marks (we’ve all dropped our pen on our page), torn paper (yes we’ve all torn our paper by mistake but love it too much to replace it).
Whenever I see a piece of plastic I may be able to use I cut it down into flat pieces (8×10 and under) and store them in a folder then when I am inspired (or can get my kids to help me) I sit and cut a bunch of random shapes so they are ready when I need them.
Summer…Quote of the Day
In every girls life; there’s a boy she’ll never forget and a summer where it all began.
Many schools have already started back. Our schools start next Thursday and I can’t help but think about Summer’s end. As much as I don’t want to see it happen there is nothing I can do to stop it. This quote made me think back to all those summers I enjoyed as a child, meeting new “summer” friends was always the best!!

Love…Quote of the Day
” Love me when I least deserve it, because that’s when I need it the most.
” Walking’s easy, staying’s hard.
Journaling/Photo …Tip of the Day
Everyone is quick to crop their photos right down to focus on the main subject.
Sometimes we have photos with a great background and do not even realize it because what see is often the person we took the photo of.
For photos like this with a non-busy background, such as outside – grass, trees, etc; why not leave the photo full size and add some journaling right on your photo. Maybe add a rub on tag that only has the outline or draw an outline and add the title or some journaling inside your tag outline. Be sure to use a white or light color marker that will pop off the background.
Give it a try…worse case scenario you hate it and they you just crop your photo down like you planned on anyway
Summer … Quote of the Day
A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.
~~ James Dent

Scraps…Tip of the Day
Money is tight for most of us in this current economic state…yet that doesn’t have to keep us from preserving our memories and enjoy our craft!
After cropping and mounting we always have left over scraps….
Take your scraps and use them to make a greeting card. Do this right away after you complete your page when all the supplies are still out. This will keep you from having this never ending and overwhelming bin of scraps that you look and at don’t want to touch!
I purchase a value pack of blank cards & envelopes at the craft store (always with my 40 or 50% off coupon) for around $5 then I have them right there next to my scrapbooking area…just waiting to be embellished.
Make whatever card is best suited with what scraps you have…whatever theme your page is (Christmas, Birthday, Mother’s or Father’s Day, etc) and save it for use at a later time.
This will not only save you money by not tossing the scraps but it will save you the expense of a card (most are $4 and up now)…most important it will save you time…time from pulling out your supplies to make one card when you need it and time from running to the store!!
August…Quote (Poem) of the day
“August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
Expected,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away.”
- Elizabeth Maua Taylor
Stitching…tip of the day
Love the look of stitching but just cannot sew on your pages?? or just don’t have the time to??
Have you tried using a marker or colored pencil to draw the stitches?
Or how about rub ons…many companies have rub on stitches.
Low Cost Embellishments….Tip of the Day
We all love embellishments but many of us cannot afford their high price tag!!
Pull out your stamps and let’s make some embellishments with the supplies we already have!
Get your animal, flower and shapes stamps and your left over scraps and here we go…
Stamp your shape onto your scraps, color it, cut it out and then adhere it to your page…use some pop dots to lift them off the page and ta da!
No one will ever know you did it yourself!
Make several and use as a border, put on colored squares and make deco squres or cluster your flowers in the corner of your photo for a fancier look.
Summer…Quote of the Day
Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.
~~ Russell Baker
Summer…Quote of the Day
Being a child at home alone in the summer is a high-risk occupation. If you call your mother at work thirteen times an hour, she can hurt you. ~Erma Bombeck
Chipboard…Tip of the Day
Want to cover your chipboard shapes with printed paper or want to make more of the same chipboard shapes?
Use the negative shapes from your chipboard sheets as a template to trace the shape on the back of your printed paper and cut out for a perfect fit!
Also take the chipboard sheets that come package with your paper packs, kits, etc and trace the negative shapes and trace them to cut out more of the shapes you love without the expense of whole precut chipboard sheets.
Make sure you save the negatives you love for future use!!!
Creativity…Quote of the Day
Creativity comes from trust. Trust your instincts. And never hope more than you work!
– Rita Mae Brown
People often tell me they are not creative enough to scrapbook!! This quote made me think of all of them.
Yes you are! Creativity is art and art is never “wrong”. Art is an expression of yourself and no one can ever match that. It is a way to show your inner beauty. Creativity is simply voicing your opinion. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is creative; so let it out and show the world what you are all about!!
Have a photo you can’t crop but…Tip of the Day
Have a photo you can’t or don’t want to crop down but it has something one the edge (or in the corner) you want to cover up??
Cover it up with a transparency…don’t have one that fits or want to save money?
Then why not make your own custom transparency?
Buy a pack of overhead protector sheets at the office store (I buy a bulk pack of them so I have them when I need them and it’s cheaper that way) then cut them down to the size of the photo…use a simple stamp (like swirls or dots or flowers) and stamp around the edge or corners you want to cover. Be sure to use a good ink such as StazOn for this and give it ample time to dry.
There you go…your own custom transparency to hide what you need exactly where you need it to!!!
